#MyCleanBeautyShelf: Peek Inside the Morning Routine of Jené Roestorf, Founder of Luxe Botanics

4 min read

Hello, I’m Jené Roestorf, Founder of Luxe Botanics, a botanic skin care range innovated by nature, designed to nurture.

I was born in South Africa where I enjoyed a childhood filled with nature, cultural explorations and African travels. My passion for the biological world, coupled with a natural creative flair, lead me to study biotechnology in Australia. I worked for 10 years in laboratories and pharmaceutical MNCs, both in Australia and Singapore, before deciding to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams.

I founded Luxe Botanics based on my belief that there is great power at the intersection of science and nature.

Luxe Botanics is an intrepid, aspirational luxury botanic skin care brand, rooted in science and celebrating global cultures, that leads the indie beauty segment in intelligent beauty activism. Its’ distinctive combination of globally sourced botanical oils and extracts with empirically derived green formulations provide targeted, botanical solutions to solve the most common skin care concerns while empowering both the consumer and local harvesting communities.

My beauty philosophy is…

True beauty means taking a holistic view of self care. This means looking beyond the products you use, the food you eat, or your workout routine, and ensuring that you are supporting businesses that put great care into creating their products or services, that evaluate and try to reduce their carbon footprint, that support the people actually making their products in meaningful ways, and that help to preserve our natural environment.

First thing in the morning, I…

Spritz my face with Camu Brightening Mist to give my skin a hydration boost while I go through my morning routine.

My morning skincare routine includes…

I have complicated skin needs… My skin type is dry while I have always struggled with acne, dehydration, hyper pigmentation and I developed allergies to some preservatives (including phenoxyethanol) and synthetic perfumes. I’ve sought the advice of many dermatologists, allergists, and aestheticians, who have all genuinely tried to help me, but which resulted in 5 rounds of Accutane over 20 years and trying harsh peels/ lasers. All of this means my skin is super sensitive so I can’t easily change my routine.
Morning:
Camu Brightening Cleanser, a spritz of Camu Brightening Mist, then I use a few drops of the Kigelia Corrective Serum followed by the Camu Brightening Serum. Then I get my rose quartz facial roller out of the fridge and give my skin a good wake up roll to help alleviate puffiness and encourage lymphatic drainage. I follow with one more drop of Camu Brightening Serum and then massage in my Kigelia Corrective Moisturiser.
Night:
I double cleanse with the Marula Hydrating Pre Cleanser to remove my makeup, dirt and pollution, followed by the Camu Brightening Cleanser. I spritz the mist immediately as I get out of the shower to keep my skin moist and ready to absorb further treatments. I slowly layer my serums starting with the Kigelia Corrective Serum, then the Camu Brightening Serum and the Marula Hydrating Serum. I let them absorb while I brush my teeth. Then I apply a generous squeeze of the Camu Brightening Moisturiser to lock in all that goodness.
Treatments:
3-4 times a week I make a variety of home made masks using yoghurt, avocado, cinnamon, turmeric or charcoal powder mixed in with one of the LUXE Botanics serums.
Twice a week I use the GloPRO microneedling tool to help soften my acne scarring and I find my Kigelia Corrective Serum really comes in handy to manage any post needling redness.
My skincare is what I invest in most, as it’s always been the hardest part of my health to manage.

My morning haircare routine includes…

While some might say short hair is high maintenance, I have always found it a lot easier to manage compared to long hair. But then again I haven’t had long hair since I was 14… I shampoo and condition with Ethique hair bars every morning followed by a quick blow dry and then add a dash of InnerSense Organics Inner Peace Whipped Creme Texturiser.

My morning makeup routine includes…

I like to keep makeup minimal so my go to products are very simple, easy to apply and don’t melt off in the heat of Lisbon summer! I love Suntegrity Impeccable Skin Matt Tinted SPF, Sappho New Paradigm Concealer, Kjaer Weis Blush in Precious or Sun Touched, Alima Pure Natural Definition Eye Pencil in Patina and Ere Perez Avocado Waterproof Mascara.

Any makeup or skincare tips?

Regular facials with an experienced aesthetician who uses natural products are the secret to great skin.

What’s your desert island/ can’t-live-without beauty product?

Definitely Kigelia Corrective Serum. My skin is very sensitive and I’ve battled acne continuously since I was in my early teens so Kigelia africana is the only botanical that solves both skin concerns. Plus it’s a great natural healer if I get sunburnt!
