#MyCleanBeautyShelf: Peek Inside the Morning Routine of Lauren Lovelady, Co-Founder of Each & Every
Lauren Lovelady has spent the past 10 years working in deodorants, first on mainstream brands like Secret and Old Spice, and now with Each & Every – a brand she co-founded with her colleague, Mikah. During her time working in more traditional deodorants, she noticed the naturals segment of the market was underserved and got the bug to create something new. Though natural products had been on the rise, her journey to find a natural deodorant was frustrating, and she was inspired by the challenge to create a natural product that worked as well as the mainstream brands she had worked on for years. Let’s take a look into Lauren’s #MyCleanBeautyShelf.
My beauty philosophy is…
to do what feels good! Don’t overthink it — beauty is fun and engaging and experimental.
First thing in the morning, I…
check my calendar on my phone to see what the day holds. I’m trying to phase out of that habit and start with something more zen, but I love a schedule and knowing what I’m getting into for the day. I also like to get a workout in before the day begins and try to hop on my Peloton or hit a hot yoga class to start the day with energy and mental clarity.
My morning skincare routine consists of…
a splash of water and SPF. I don’t like to wash my face in the morning because my nighttime routine includes a multi-step process with cleansers, serums, moisturizers, and creams, and I don’t like the idea of washing that off just a few hours later. A splash of water after the shower helps me wake up and feel like I’m working with a clean slate without sending my skincare goodness down the drain. And SPF is a must, must, must. The sun is so tough on skin, so I make sure to have SPF on under any makeup. I prefer to apply it separately instead of using makeup with SPF because I feel like it just seeps into my pores better and provides better protection.
Most of my true skincare routine happens at night. I’m a makeup junkie so washing my face is priority #1. I really love the Fresh Rose Cleansing Foam right now. I then go into serums and creams. I’m loving Sunday Riley and Biossance products right now. I also really love the Summer Fridays jet lag mask. My skin feels so smooth after using it! I’ve recently gotten into jade rollers and I try to do it for a bit at night to loosen tension in my face and jaw from the day.
My morning haircare routine consists of…
My haircare routine depends on the day. If I’m washing my hair, I use shampoo and conditioner in the shower. I’ve been on a Living Proof kick lately. Then I blow dry and run a curling iron through it for soft waves. I only wash about 2-3 times per week and my favorite hair days are 2nd-day hair after I’ve worked out and blow-dried the sweat back into my hair. It sounds gross, but it gives me such great texture! And a little dry shampoo makes it feel and look fresh. Trust!
My morning makeup routine consists of…
skincare first – SPF and lips. I love getting my skin soft before applying makeup. I use Tarte Shape Tape Foundation and concealer – my holy grails! I’m constantly experimenting but always come back. I set my foundation with Laura Mercier Translucent Powder and then do a light contour and blush to add some dimension back to my face. I love Marc Jacobs products and swear by the bronzer. I keep it everywhere – my makeup drawer, my purse, my travel bag. I have lash extensions and microblading so the eyes are quick – game changer! I’ll run a brow gel through the brows and comb the lashes. Swipe on a lip and I’m good to go!
Any makeup or skincare tips?
SPF! A short time in the sun can ruin months of hard work on your skin. Not to mention the incidental exposure we get every day that we don’t even realize. SPF is your trusted friend.
What’s your desert island/ cant-live-without beauty product?
My Each & Every deodorant. Obviously I’m biased but it feels good to smell good! The ingredients are hyper-clean and I love how luxurious our formula feels on the skin.
