#MyCleanBeautyShelf: Peek Inside the Morning Routine of Rachel Winard, Founder + CEO, Soapwalla

3 min read

Hi, My name is Rachel Winard and I am the founder and CEO of Soapwalla, a unisex award-winning natural skincare line that I founded in 2009. I started crafting safe skincare after I was diagnosed with systemic lupus and needed products that were safe enough for me to use. I often travel and speak about the importance of natural, inclusive skincare, as well as ethical business practices. Prior to founding Soapwalla, I was a Juilliard- trained professional violinist and NYC attorney. In my free time, I practice yoga, boxing, and groan-worthy puns. Let’s take a look into Rachel’s #MyCleanBeautyShelf.

My beauty philosophy is…

Less is more. You are perfect just as you are. And always, always listen to your instincts.

First thing in the morning, I…

Brush my teeth, spritz my face with toner and drink a glass of water and mug of coffee before I head into the shower.

My morning skincare routine consists of…

Every day: I shower most mornings. My showers are often about 45 seconds long – I just suds up the pits and bits with a rotating Soapwalla bar. Right now we have Cedarwood Clay and Activated Charcoal Cleansing Bars in the shower. 1-2x/week I will cleanse my hair with a mild shampoo and conditioner – I get blisters on my scalp so I’m very careful about upsetting the delicate balance. When I get out of the shower, I gently towel dry (my skin is still pretty damp), I apply Soapwalla’s Hydrating Toning Mist, followed Restorative Face Serum on my face, neck and decollete. I also follow up with our Resilience Body Oil everywhere else, followed by our Concentrated Repair Balm under my eyes, on my cheeks and lips, and on my hands, elbows and knees. I quickly swipe some deodorant under my arms and I’m ready to go. Most days I don’t even look at myself in the mirror before I leave the house. I’ve been known to arrive at work with some CRAZY hair situations 🙂 Periodically: Twice a week, I apply Soapwalla’s Phosphorescence Facial Mask in the morning and leave it on while I enjoy my coffee. It’s super easy to rinse off in the shower and then get on with my day. If I am going to be outside for a long period of time, I will apply the tiniest amount of sunscreen onto my face, neck and ears. Sunscreen doesn’t often like my skin, so I only apply when necessary. If I feel particularly sore after a hard boxing session, I will also apply a CBD ointment to my upper traps and shoulder blades.

My morning haircare routine consists of…

Gentle shampoo and conditioner 1-2 times a week. Otherwise, I run my fingers through my hair using the residue from Soapwalla’s Body Oil and Deodorant Cream as natural hair texturizers.

My morning makeup routine consists of…

None. I don’t wear makeup.

Any skincare/make-up tips?

Drink a ton of water and sleep as much as you can.

What’s your desert-island/can’t-live-without skincare product?

Soapwalla’s Resilience Body Oil. It’s so versatile – it can be used as a cleanser, moisturizer, hair conditioner, lip repair oil. Our Resilience Body Oil also helps strengthen weakened skin, reduces the appearance of scarring, and smells freaking amazing!
