#MyCleanBeautyShelf: Peek Inside the Morning Routine of Shamir Cohen, Founder of Pure & Peaceful
Shamir Cohen, founder of Pure & Peaceful, started the modern wellness brand out of her belief that cleaning can be an uplifting and therapeutic experience when it’s done with high-quality natural ingredients.
Growing up, Shamir was sensitive to chemical-based household products that gave her asthma, headaches and other negative reactions. Years later, as a result of this experience and because of a gap in the market, she looked far and wide to create a line of completely nontoxic aromatherapy products that would be effective and eco-friendly. The result: sustainable, plant and mineral-based formulas, that not only wipe out dirt and stains but will also have a positive impact on your well-being—a win-win for your home and your health. Her cleaning products are aromatherapy-based, designed to strengthen your immune system and elevate your mood with delicious scents. Let’s take a look into Shamir’s #MyCleanBeautyShelf.
My beauty philosophy is…
Radiant beauty comes from nourishing your body AND soul.
First thing in the morning, I…
Drink room temperature water with lemon, followed by a quick skincare routine. Next, I’ll down celery or another vegetable juice, which I make or buy (depending on time), before heading to my favorite workout at Pure Barre Williamsburg. When I get back home I always treat myself to a post-class matcha latte. 🙂 I try and make the nut milk for my latte when I can as most store-bought options are laced with fillers, or the almonds used are sprayed with the chemical Glyphosate. It’s pretty easy to make fresh macadamia nut milk, so I try and make a batch every few days.
My morning skincare routine consists of…
Cold water to wash my face—this way I don’t strip natural oils as my skin can get dry in the winter. I follow with Vintner’s Daughter’s Active Treatment Essence. After that, I blend Agent Nateur’s Holi (water) and Holi (c) (one of my favorite skincare brands, not to mention the owner Jena is amazing and extremely informative!). After letting those products dry, I use either Agent Nateur’s Holi (oil), or Vintner’s Daughter’s Active Botanical Serum; both smell heavenly and give me a little morning punch of aromatherapy. If I have time, I use my facial Gua Sha tool to work in the oil and help drain my lymphatic system, which is especially handy if my face is a little bloated that morning. If I’m leaving after 9 a.m., I will always top off with Luzern’s LA Defense SPF 30.
My morning haircare routine consists of…
I’m pretty basic with my hair. I only wash and use heat tools once a week to keep it healthy, in between I will just condition. My hair is quite full and textured so a blow-dry will last around three days. On days I wash and style, first I do a scalp massage with Yarok’s Feed Your Youth Hair and Scalp Serum, (especially in the winter when my scalp gets dry), then I wash with Briogeo’s Don’t Despair, Repair! Shampoo, followed by their Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask. I try and always use a mask if I’m going to use heat tools. Luckily Briogeo’s products smell amazing and have been the only natural hair care line that works well with my textured full head of hair! After blow-drying, and before ironing (if I’m going for the extra sleek look), I rotate between Briogeo’s Farewell Frizz Oil, which smells delicious and is made with a rosehip, argan & coconut oil blend, or I use Captain Blankenship’s Mermaid Hair Oil, which also smells amazing from the essential oils blended in jojoba oil.
My make-up routine consists of…
As I get older I prefer to wear more skin products than makeup, however, I love a good brow gel. My go-to is either Glossier’s Boy Brow or Ilia Beauty’s Essential Brow Gel. Most days I just add ILIA Beauty’s True Skin Serum Concealer under my eyes, use a dab of Kjaer Weis’s Cream Blush, and out the door I go.
On weekends when I go out, I may add some tinted moisturizer—my favorite is the Juice Beauty Stem Cellular CC Cream. It’s the perfect texture to let your skin shine through but still evens out your tone while leaving a glowing finish. I will then finish off with ILIA Beauty’s Limited Lash Mascara, RMS Beauty Highlighter and a red lip. I use my Pure & Peaceful Hand Purifier during the makeup process to clean my fingers between products and get a boost of aromatherapy.

In addition to using a humidifier, I spray my face periodically with a mist of purified water to keep my skin dewy and fresh during the winter months. It’s also good to spray your skin when on an airplane, as it counteracts skin dehydration from the dry air.
