#MyCleanBeautyShelf: This Organic Girl’s Morning Routine
When a degree in journalism and a diehard enthusiasm for nontoxic living come face to face, a blog is born. Lisa Fennessey, the blogger behind This Organic Girl, talks about safer alternatives for everyday living. Whether it’s makeup, skincare, cleaning supplies, food, baby or home you can find it all on Lisa’s site, written in accessible, friendly language that engages even the newest clean living convert. And that’s why she’s the perfect candidate to share her morning routine in our latest #MyCleanBeautyShelf.
My beauty philosophy is…
Beauty is more than the best mask or the perfect blush. It’s feeling confident, fulfilled, loved and happy. This radiates from the inside out and that’s true beauty. That being said, having effective skincare and beautiful makeup never hurt anyone. My philosophy is care, feed and nurture your skin with nontoxic + organic products that work with your body. And have fun with makeup! Pump it up on nights that you want a more dramatic look and use it daily to enhance your natural beauty.
First thing in the morning, I…
Drink a glass of lemon water then make the kids breakfast.
My morning skincare routine
I love starting off with a mini face massage in the morning to help depuff. True Botanicals Pre Cleanse Oil doubles as a face massage oil and oil cleanser. I massage for 3-5 minutes, then wipe off with a warm wash cloth. If I think my skin needs a boost, I’ve been loving LIVE Botanicals Honey + Rose Glowing Mask. This is a honey-based mask that cleanses and exfoliates. You can leave it on as long or as little as you like. Then wet fingertips and massage off slowly and get ready for glowing skin.
Next I mist. Right now I am loving May Lindstrom’s Jasmine Garden which smells amazing. Then I moisturize. I love oils but during the winter when my skin needs more moisture, I am all about the creams. I just finished up my Josh Rosebrook’s Vital Balm Cream and now I am on to Bergamot Rose Face Cream, a beautiful organic face cream by WildCraft. I also apply a body oil or lotion too. I am trying the Osmia Organics Body Oil Triplet, which I am LOVING. And for lotions, I love True Botanicals Nourishing Lotion.
My morning haircare routine
I usually only wash my hair 2-3 times a week. On days when I do, I love using True Botanicals Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner. Then I apply Innersense’s Inner Peace Whipped Cream Texturizer and diffuse. After, I set with Josh Rosebrook’s Hairspray. On days that I don’t wash, I literally don’t do anything. I don’t even brush it (shh!). It’s still piecey and it kinda works. And on days where there’s no hope, I throw on a hat.
My morning makeup routine
Anything goes! I’m always trying new but I would say my go-to staples when I want a simple look are:
- rms beauty “un” cover-up applied to red spots with a Beauty Blender
- INIKA Organic BB Cream in Beige for a super natural look
- Gressa Eye Tint in Aureo
- INIKA Organic Long Lash Mascara
- Hynt Beauty Eye Brow Definer in Espresso
- Fitglow Beauty Mineral Blush in Rose
- Maya Chia Waterless Wonderbalm on lips
My favorite beauty tip
Exfoliating 1-2 times a week is a total game changer! I love Josh Rosebrook’s Active Enzyme Exfoliator.
