#MyCleanBeautyShelf: What Annie Jackson, Credo Beauty Co-Founder, Uses In Her Daily Routine
Annie Jackson, co-founder of Credo Beauty, started at Estee Lauder when she was 19—and she’d been in beauty ever since. She says she was lucky enough to start Credo with a true visionary, Shashi Batra, who is also a conventional beauty ex-pat. Shashi lost a battle with cancer in May of 2017, but, says Annie, “we are a tight squad of beauty lovers driven to continue his legacy by pioneering clean beauty retail and bringing these incredible brands and founders to neighborhoods across the U.S.”
So what does this green beauty retail co-founder keep in her beauty cabinet? “I am super proud my marriage has survived the ridiculous real estate I take up in our bathroom with an overflowing combination of brands I have used for years and new ones I am trying,” she says. And, though her husband won’t let her try any products on his face (he claims to have PTSD from a time her daughter gave him a Biore Strip one fateful evening), Annie does continue to ask if she can give him a mini-facial. “No luck,” she says. “But our kids will be in college soon, so he may give in eventually to distract from being a manic empty-nester…. we’ll see.” Here’s what masks, potions and products Annie keeps close at hand, whether for personal use or for trial on her family, in the latest #MyCleanBeautyShelf.
My beauty philosophy is…
My bathroom tells a story in conflict with me as a human. I am the most low maintenance person on the planet. But the stacked up mask jars, overflowing makeup organizers and cleansers lined up like a parking lot probably give a lot of people the wrong impression of me. I’m an inner Marie Kondo! But I’m lucky enough to try a lot of products and awesome brands and I have always been a merchant in my heart.
Clean beauty is an incredible luxury because I can intimately understand the ingredient stories of these products and how nourishing and healthy the plants they use can be for your skin PLUS trying what’s new and usually never been seen. Credo is a dream to have built and continue to grow because it embodies a lifestyle and celebrates healthy living.
But my beauty philosophy is to do what feels right, whether it is your beauty routine, parenting, eating, exercising… your job. If something doesn’t fulfill you, or make your heart happy—beauty (inside and out) is unattainable. Beauty is everywhere if you look for it with the right point of view—and it is never found in putting on mask of makeup that doesn’t represent who you are.
First thing in the morning, I…
I go to power yoga when I am not traveling, and usually try and put a light layer of Indie Lee Squalane Oil on before I leave.
My morning skincare routine
I realized I time my morning down to the minute and it drives me nuts. My kids are older and super independent so I hope one day I can shake my mental scheduling of everything I need to do to get out the door at some point… but I cleanse my face with Pai’s Camelia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser and then use Alpyn’s PlantGenius Survival Serum (love the hydration and slight luminosity) in between coffee and using Skin Owl’s Eye + gel fresh and freezing cold out of the fridge. (This is something I have done since we started working with Skin Owl in 2016 and I literally thank that little badass founder Annie Tevelin every morning for creating this product!)
My morning haircare routine
I always blow out my hair at night and flat iron it in my morning. I am cursed with huge hair and it needs an overnight to allow me to not look like the hair with the woman attached. I use dry shampoo also and love Kaia Naturals Overnight Dry Shampoo in Blonde.
My morning makeup routine
I use RMS “Un” Cover-Up in 11 as a foundation. I love how it blends with Alpyn. I use Lily Lolo’s Laid Bare Palette and Jillian Dempsey’s Eye Pencil in Rich Brown and Ere Perez Jojoba Eye Pencil in Bronze. I love ILIA Beauty’s Limitless Lash Mascara and Juice Beauty’s Phyto-Pigments Brow Envy Gel in Light Medium.
My favorite beauty tip
I travel quite a bit and like to make the most of down time so I always bring masks with me. Right now I LOVE Kypris’ Cerulean Mask. It is so hydrating and I have a weird obsession with hotel wash cloths for some reason, so I get plump skin and awesome light exfoliation. I also think the self-heating eye masks that Spacemasks makes, makes long flights somewhat bearable. Love, love them.
