Jaleh Bisharat is the co-founder and CEO of NakedPoppy, a clean beauty retail start-up that strives to curate the very best in clean beauty makeup brands. She also speaks and writes on topics of concern to working women. Her writing has appeared in a variety of outlets, including Entrepreneur, Fast Company, the Huffington Post, The Next Women, Thrive Global, VentureBeat and Women 2.0. Let’s get a peek into what this graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Business School keeps in her #MyCleanBeautyShelf.
My beauty philosophy is…
Beauty is a lot less about how you look and a lot more about who you are. Be kind, be healthy and lovely makeup is icing on the cake.
First thing in the morning, I…
Drink water with lemon in it. This is followed by a cup of homemade espresso from fresh grounds. Then it’s time to work out. Exercise is not optional; I make myself do it six or seven days per week. If I’m crazy busy, I remind myself of how good I’ll feel afterwards and that something is infinitely better than nothing—so in that case, I’ll just do 20 or 30 minutes.
My morning skincare routine
I start with the Honest Beauty gel cleanser, followed by the Maya Chia Optimist. I love the way the Maya Chia brightens and tightens my skin. Up next: the 100% Pure Coffee Bean eye cream. My dark circles are hereditary and I can’t get rid of them, but the 100% Pure product is the best I’ve found to brighten them. Next up is the Intelligent Nutrients Serum. I let that settle for a few minutes before moving onto makeup.
My morning haircare routine
I’ll admit it: I’m a blow dry bar junkie. I can work on my laptop (or relax) during a blowout, and then morning hair is a breeze. I love not having to think about whether or not my hair looks good because, thanks to my stylist, it usually does.
My morning makeup routine
The new Kosas Tinted Face Oil is a foundation game changer. It’s clean, light and fabulous. I apply Lily Lolo Bronzer for contour, followed by the Ere Perez Cream Blush. Then I use Lily Lolo Mascara and Clove + Hallow Under Eye Concealer. Lip color depends on my mood but I love the Alima Pure Lip Tints and the Kari Gran Lip Whips.
My favorite beauty tip
Keep it clean! Remember that much of what you put on your skin, near your eyes and on your lips is absorbed into your body—so make sure you choose the cleanest beauty and skincare products.
