#MyCleanBeautyShelf: What Rachel Pachivas, COO of Annmarie Skin Care, Uses In Her Daily Routine

Rachel is Annmarie Skin Care’s COO, and has been with the company since the beginning of 2012. Her desire to create beautiful spaces and atmospheres brought her to an education in design, but then shortly after, inspired her to travel to see the beauties of the world. It was traveling Australia that really sparked who she is today—learning about organic farming and permaculture, natural skincare and herbs and natural medicine.

During her mid to late 20s, she spent time as a political organizer, working on food transparency related issues, and today she continues to work on projects around food sovereignty, and toxic chemicals in the skincare industry and in our everyday lives. Annmarie Skin Care is the perfect fit for her. The line provides organic and wildcrafted skincare to people around the world, with the goal to move chemicals off of the shelves and out of the industry.

Since joining Annemarie Skin Care, Rachel has grown the team from two team members to more than 20, while keeping the culture aligned with their values. With her love and passion for healthy lifestyles, creating comfortable environments and community organizing, she hopes to always bring thought, love and drive into the growth, team and culture of ASC. But what does she keep in her daily beauty routine? She’s giving us a peek into her cabinet on today’s #MyCleanBeautyShelf.

My beauty philosophy is…

Beauty to me is to radiate love to everyone around me. I think it’s so important to love yourself in a way so that you are secure with who you are and in a way that allows you to love others… For you to shine so that everyone around you can feel that love. I feel very strongly about positive affirmations, being self aware and taking time to grow who I am as a human.

I also strongly believe in self-care in general—someone recently told me that my “self-care ritual is so incredible.” He was in awe. I was a bit confused actually. I thought—doesn’t everyone mask in the mornings while soaking in a salt bath enriched with magnesium and filled with the scent of essential oils? And I started thinking about it, and it turns out I have some pretty solid pamper sessions. I really love taking care of myself and allowing myself the time and space to feel great. Whether that’s blocking off time to have a date night with myself while making a yummy meal and watching a movie, to taking baths while masking and giving myself facials with my derma roller, my gua sha and facial cupping tools, or doing positive affirmations. I really take self-care to the next level.

I also think it’s so important to drink copious amounts of spring water and eat fresh fruits and veggies. Lastly, don’t make yourself feel bad about what you eat or don’t eat. There are so many diets and fads, and so many people saying to not eat something or make sure you eat another, but only after this hour, and so on. I like to eat what I want and when I want (perhaps a croissant and a coffee), but I most importantly, always grant myself that permission and never guilt myself afterwards. This guilt can translate to how we feel about ourselves, which affects us deeper than we think.

First thing in the morning, I…

Usually put a mask on right away—either our Annmarie Skin Care Illuminating Pearl Mask or The Petal from Mahalo. Then I start the kettle for some tea or a morning elixir while feeding the cats, sage smudging, getting the house a bit organized and preparing my workspace (and peeking at my calendar for the day). I like to take a few minutes to stretch. It’s not really a planned activity, but it always feels so good so, it just sort of happens. I’ll attempt to meditate (which I totally need to get better about), and then sit down to relax and drink my tea. During this time, I may take some of my herbs or tinctures as well.

My morning skincare routine

After masking in the morning, I’ll rinse it off and wash with our Annmarie Skin Care Phytonutrient Cleanser (and every few days use our Kaolin Micro Exfoliant). I use our Coconut Body Oil religiously and slather on some of my body butter I make, which is now our Annmarie Skin Care Palo Santo Body Butter. For my facial routine I spritz on some of a hydrosol blend I made—of helichrysum, chamomile, rose and frankincense. You should be seeing this as a new addition to our Wild Alchemy Collection pretty soon. Then I use our Wild Fruit Serum, followed by either our Herbal Facial Oil for Normal & Combination Skin or the Blue Cocoon from May Lindstrom. After my moisturizing I will typically gua sha three to four days out of the week, or go through my facial cupping routine at least three days a week. For my final touches, I use a small amount of our Anti-Aging Eye Cream and then finish with a light coat of Avasol Sunscreen.

My morning haircare routine

I wash my hair only a couple of times a week. We are working on formulating our own, so this past year I have been experimenting with quite a few options for shampoo and conditioner. I am obsessed with Hairprint’s hair oil products. I use a few of their Nutritive Hair Oils along with their Botanical Hair Elixirs for weekly treatment. I love their Daikon Seed Oil right after I shower to add some shine to my hair before it dries. As I mentioned I don’t wash my hair too often, I definitely use dry shampoo—Morrocco Method’s Dry Shampoo is what I use. This may sound bad, but I only brush my hair after I wash it. I rarely blow dry it or style it. I always just let it dry naturally and keep it minimal.

My morning makeup routine

I use a tinted sunscreen, so I don’t wear any face makeup on a daily basis. If I happen to go out at night, then I will wear our Minerals Foundation in the Honey Shade. Right now we are working on expanding our beauty line, so I have been playing around with our new eyebrow tint, along with a dark brown eye liner. I use a brush to make it smokey looking. W3LL People Mascara is my favorite mascara to use. I use our Antioxidant Lip Balm as my lip moisturizer. Then I finish off with one of our new Lip and Cheek Tints, which will be coming out this year. Dusty Rose is my favorite. If I’m going out at night and want to wear lipstick, I use Nudus. Last little tip… in the summer time, I love to use Vapour’s highlights and bronzers. They are beautiful!

My favorite beauty tip

Skincare—Make sure you mask. Masking is fun and can have so many different purposes. Have fun with it and experiment with different natural ingredients to find your favorite ones. Also, facial tools like the gua sha or facial cupping tools  are so incredible! Take the time to play around with these. Makeup—Keep it simple. Try to apply makeup and use items that enhance your natural beauty instead of altering it. Eyebrows: I like to use an oil on them first, and then use a dry tint. Just to give it a more natural look. Then I brush it in quite well so it looks very faint and doesn’t look painted. With my eyes… I’ve never mastered the liquid eye liner, so I use a pencil. But with that, I like to blend it in with a brush so that it looks smokey and a bit more natural.
