The Detox Market Brings Clean Beauty to New York City

2 min read

In New York City, “go big or go home” is an unofficial motto. Big dreams, big skyscrapers and big splashes are always the order of the day, and for Toronto-based clean beauty retailer The Detox Market, opening its first New York City store is a big deal—literally.

Situated in midst of New York’s SoHo, NoHo and East Village neighborhoods—on the corner of E. Houston and Elizabeth streets—the 2,100 square-feet retail space has opened its doors with 109 clean beauty brands gracing its shelves. Boasting two stories, the first floor of The Detox Market is a dedicated retail space, while the second floor is “dedicated to events, workshops, facials, makeup sessions and content creation.” The building also has a rooftop space, allowing for outdoor events.

The new location is the seventh for the company, which plans on a go-forward to open an additional three to four brick and mortar stores annually.

“Houston has huge foot and car traffic, and Elizabeth has a lot of interesting concepts. It’s a really cool spot,” Romain Gaillard, founder and CEO of The Detox Market told Beauty Independent. “My vision from day one was to find a place where we could gather the community for events and make a real statement that green beauty is happening. When I saw the space, I felt it was perfect. It has everything I want.”

Using white ash for the shelves, soft grey Italian marble accents and fresh plants that mimic the ingredients in some of its products, The Detox Market has created a soothing, sensory shopping experience for its customers.

“What’s important to me is to find a community that will be receptive to what we do and to our message,” Gaillard said. “It’s a very different approach. A lot of people look at how much people make, and we are looking more at neighborhoods and trendsetters. It’s complicated to open a store in a city you don’t know. Green beauty is still fairly new to a lot of people. It’s still the beginning of this massive shift.”

Backed by its stunning new retail space and the vision of its founder, The Detox Market is poised to take a bite of the Big Apple—and to shift the green beauty movement forward even further.
