Women We’re Watching: Giuliana Rancic of Fountain of Truth Skincare

5 min read

Giuliana Rancic is the founder of Fountain of Truth, a new nontoxic skincare line formulated to be safe for women of all ages to use. As a breast cancer survivor and mother, Giuliana became aware of just how important using clean products is to our health—and that inspired her to do better by formulating better. Her determination to formulate a safer skincare line, her commitment to living a life of gratitude and her definition of what wellness means to her make Giuliana Rancic a woman we’re watching.

Many of our readers know you as the co-host of E! News (and we’re so happy to see Giuliana Rancic back at E!), but you’re also the founder of Fountain of Truth, a new nontoxic skincare line. Can you tell us where the passion behind this brand stems from, and how you landed here as an entrepreneur in the clean beauty space, Giuliana?

After I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 36, I set out to find skincare products that were safe to use. To be honest, I had a hard time finding what I considered to be a nontoxic skincare line that also treated the appearance of fine lines, discoloration and other skin issues. I committed myself to creating my own clean products and sharing them with people of all ages.

For those new to clean, nontoxic beauty, what do you want them to know about the ingredients in their personal care products? Do you have a list of ingredients you aim to stay away from, or any that you seek out for their safety and efficacy?

In the past seven years, it has become very important to me to use clean and safe products all while being effective. I think it is necessary for consumers to know exactly what is inside the products they are using. That is why my eco-luxe beauty line, Fountain of Truth is Clean. Beautiful. Truthful.

Clean beauty to our company means we are always made without: sodium lauryl sulfates, phthalates, petroleum, parabens, silicones, mineral oil, DEA, phosphate, synthetic dyes and PEGS.

What most excites you about the clean beauty space right now?

Clean beauty, at least in the case of the Fountain of Truth line, means transparency and that’s what excites me the most. For too long, we have not always been told or made aware of what is in the popular products we use and it’s great that consumers are demanding more transparency from their skincare and beauty lines. We all need to know what we are putting on our skin.

What were the biggest challenges you faced when bringing Fountain of Truth to fruition?

We wanted the products to be very special and perfect so we went through various formulations to finally get it right. We also did clinicals (research investigations where volunteers try out the products and provide their feedback) for every single product because we wanted to know exactly how people would respond to each product. These factors made it a longer process to actually get the line to market, but it was important to me to get it right and in the end, it took more than two years to create Fountain of Truth but it was so worth the wait!

Were ingredients in your conventional skincare concerning to you after your breast cancer battle? Did you have a reaction to conventional ingredients?

After I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I started doing research on the products I was using and the ingredients in them. It shocked me to see that so many of the popular beauty products I was using had dirty ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfates, phthalates and parabens, among other things, in them. It was alarming to see and I quickly switched to clean products.

You’ve dealt with some very serious health issues, and are now the founder of a company and a busy mom. How do you incorporate joy into your daily life?

Going through breast cancer taught me how to turn the volume down on the things that don’t matter and the volume up on the things that do. I know what’s important in my life and I am very grateful each day for my health and my family and being able to create things and that make me happy and help others.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give our readers to empower them to use safe products?

I believe clean beauty helps create a radiant, more youthful looking complexion without having to sacrifice on performance. I want to make sure readers know safe products make you feel better about what you are putting on your skin.

How do you, Giuliana Rancic, define wellness? What are some of your favorite wellness practices?

I used to run and work out almost every day but now I just take a 40 to 45 minute walk once or twice a week, which helps slow my mind down and reinvigorates me. Oh, and I eat pasta and dessert almost every single day. You gotta live a little!

What do you hope women take away from using Fountain of Truth products?

I hope women find that it is more important than ever to use clean and safe products all while being effective. I believe it is necessary for consumers to know exactly what is inside the products they are using. That is why my eco-luxe beauty line is Clean. Beautiful. Truthful.

Is there a favorite product in your line that you’re most excited about, Giuliana?

That’s a tough one because I use them all every day and love them all. That said, I will single out the Honey Glow Mask since it makes me smile every time I use it and it makes me feel like I am pampering myself, which is always nice.

What advice would you give women looking to change the world or disrupt the status quo with her ideas?

Why not?  Go for it!
